The South Downs Way - 100 miles - Winchester to Eastbourne

By Jill Sloan

"Veronica and I had been very good friends since 1960 – we met in Ghana when we were 19 years old – and we shared a flat in London for a few years, I helped her with wedding plans as her parents were abroad and we were godparents to each others’ children.

The things that people say about those who have gone were in fact absolutely true about Veronica. She took her great misfortune with grace (comforting those who came to comfort her, with her usual sparkling laugh). Fate was doubly cruel to her - it was she who bore the weight of supporting her family when her husband Jonathan was seriously ill over a long period, yet it was she who was taken first (Jonathan died in early 2007).

They say no one who is still loved and cherished is yet dead: that being the case, the vivacious, fun-loving Veronica is still very much in our midst. We all treasure her memory and we also remember her unstinting praise for the devoted staff at Trinity; to add to their strengths would be the finest tribute to her and them."
